Fly on the wall style needed for opening of new Trentham clothes store

A few months ago we were asked if we could cover the opening of a new Seasalt store at a retail park in Trentham Gardens, Staffordshire. Seasalt from Cornwall needed a local photographer with experience doing these kinds of events and we have done many over the years.

We were sent a brief which included images from previous shoots for reference. They asked us to capture the interior of the shop prior to opening, the staff and the customers having a nice time. I attended the site early and met everyone to hopefully put them at ease and explain how I saw the photography going. I wanted to, in the main photograph people in a ‘fly on the wall’ style. This meant I would not be in the way and the shoppers could do their thing without feeling self-conscious etc.

When the flash went off many didn’t even notice, the people that did would look up and laugh and I would ask if they would like to see the image of them on the back of the camera.

Everything went really well, and we have been asked to photograph two more store openings since this one.
